Praja Rajyam Party releases first list of 95 candidates for the Assembly polls

Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) released its first list of 95 candidates for the Assembly polls and nine for the Lok Sabha seats in Andhra Pradesh. Chiranjeevi, PRP President, who is currently on a campaign tour in East Godavari district, released the list at Jaggampet.

His name is prominent in the list with several other top leaders too finding a place. Chiranjeevi will be contesting the April 23 Assembly election from Tirupati, where he launched his party on August 26, 2008. Another list is expected to be released later in the evening.

Loksatta Party get Whistle Symbol for 2009 Elections

Loksatta Party get Whistle Symbol for 2009 Elections - The Supreme Court on Friday directed the Election Commission to give the Loksatta Party a common symbol for the forthcoming elections. Loksatta Party will get the Whistle symbol that it opted for.

But this is an interim measure and the parties will have to approach the EC for a permanent symbol. “Most of the voters are illiterate and they go by the symbols of the candidates,” said a bench comprising Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan and Justice P. Sathasivam.

The Supreme Court also stayed an AP High Court order which had directed the EC to allot common symbols to recognised political parties in the state.

PRP gets Rail Engine Symbol

Prajarajyam Party (PRP) atlast gets a common symbol, rail engine symbol, for its candidates to contest in the 2009 Assembly Elections and Loksabha Elections. The Supreme Court on Friday directed the Election Commission to give the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) a common symbol for the forthcoming elections. The PRP will get the rail engine symbol that it opted for.

The MDMK (Desiya Murpu Dravida Kazhagam) of Vijayakanth in Tamil Nadu got the nagara (drum) and the Lok Satta the whistle. The apex court brushed aside objections of the Election Commission that allotting symbols after the election had been notified would be difficult.

Chiranjeevi, who was informed about the order during a campaign stop at Peddapuram in East Godavari district, said, “We believe in God and the judicial system.” Read the rest of this entry »

Ap Congress president D. Srinivas and CM Dr. Rajasekhar Reddy released the APAssembly Election Manifesto in the wake of stiff competition from the TDP that has promised several freebies to the voter including TV sets. AP Congress maintained that its agenda was to fulfil the development oriented tasks it began five years ago.

 

Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy released the manifesto that did not have any major claim apart from uniterrupted power supply for all from June and an additional two kg rice per person.
